Our Wins

We’ve taken on the biggest names in retail - and won.

1. $20M Severance Fund

Wall Street has caused countless retail bankruptcies, leaving millions of working people without jobs and without severance pay.

With the support of United for Respect Education Fund, tens of thousands of Toys ‘R’ Us employees made history by winning a $20 million financial assistance fund from the private equity companies that owned the toy store.

2. Walmart Raises Wages

In 2018, we successfully pressured Walmart to raise starting pay to $11/hr - and in 2023, they raised that again to $14.

As the largest retailer in the nation, these victories at Walmart have rippled across the industry.

As a result of organizing, the corporation has also begun offering accommodations for pregnant mothers and providing paid family leave to 500,000 full-time employees.

We’re continuing to fight for a living wage of $15/hr and real raises for long-term associates.

3. Fair Workweek Protections

Too many people in hourly jobs are working too few hours to make ends meet, with no say in their schedules.

In a historic win, The Fair Workweek Initiative successfully moved 12 retailers to commit to providing stable workweeks for employees. Chicago, Seattle, San Jose, San Francisco, NYC, Philly and Oregon have all since passed fair workweek laws.

Today, almost 2 million workers have peace of mind about their work and family schedules.
